New features, changes and fixes in each release of Pixelate Pro. To see which version you have, choose **Pixelate > Check for Updates**.

<Update label="1.0.0" description="First release">
  The first release of Pixelate Pro: turn 3D models, prefabs and particle systems into pixel-art sprite sheets inside the Unity Editor.

  ## Capture

  * **Pixelate Assets** turn a model, prefab or particle system into sprite sheets. **Assets > Create > Pixelate > Pixelate Asset** sets up the source, framing, clips and a Style Profile from the selection.
  * **Animation clips** with their own frame rate and speed, and **particle systems** captured over time.
  * **Camera views** for any number of directions, with **Add Directions** for 4, 8 or 16 views, and reusable **Camera Rigs**.
  * Capture runs in the background in the Editor. No Play Mode, and nothing is added to your scenes.

  ## Preview

  * A live **Preview** in the Inspector that matches Export pixel for pixel, with clip and view menus, playback (**Space**), and **Lit**, **Unlit** and **Normal** draw modes.
  * **Save GIF** for sharing animations.
  * Previews in the Project window, the Pixelate Browser and Unity's object picker.

  ## Style Profiles and effects

  * **Style Profiles** share one look across many assets, with **per-asset overrides** for single values and for turning an effect on or off.
  * Seven built-in effects in a fixed pipeline: [Lighting](/effects/lighting), [Color Adjustments](/effects/color-adjustments), [Color Palette](/effects/color-palette), [Pixel Cleanup](/effects/pixel-cleanup), [Dithering](/effects/dithering), [Lines](/effects/lines) and [Palette Swap](/effects/palette-swap).
  * An [extension API](/reference/extensions) for your own effects.

  ## Palettes

  * **Pixelate Palettes** you can create, edit and sort, and import from `.gpl`, `.pal` and `.hex` files or PNG palette strips.
  * Auto palettes built from each source's own colors.

  ## Export

  * PNG sprite sheets, sliced and imported with Point filtering and the right Pixels Per Unit.
  * Optional **Animation Clips**, **Animator Controller** and **Sprite Library**.
  * **Normal maps** linked as `_NormalMap` secondary textures for URP 2D lights.
  * Configurable output folder and **File Name Pattern**, pivots, and in-place updates that keep your references working.

  ## Pixelate Browser

  * One window for every Pixelate Asset, Style Profile, Palette and Camera Rig in the project, with search, filters, export status, batch **Validate** and **Export**, and **Assign Style Profile**.

  ## Project settings and samples

  * **Edit > Project Settings > Pixelate** for defaults of new assets, where the Browser creates new items, export defaults, the startup update check and Project window previews.
  * Samples: three Pixelate Assets (Chest, UnityChan and Fire), eight Style Profiles, 15 palettes and four Camera Rigs.

  ## Help

  * **Pixelate > Samples**, **Pixelate > Documentation** and **Pixelate > Get Help on Discord**.
  * The help icon of every Pixelate Inspector, effect and the **Project Settings > Pixelate** page opens the matching page of this documentation.

  ## Compatibility

  * Unity 6.0 LTS and newer, with the Built-In Render Pipeline or URP. See [Compatibility](/help/compatibility).
