# FAQ

> Answers to common questions about Pixelate Pro.

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Do I need a scene, a camera or Play Mode?">
    No. Pixelate Pro captures in the background from the Pixelate Asset alone. It never needs Play Mode and never leaves objects in your scenes.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Does Pixelate Pro change my models or materials?">
    No. It renders your source with its own materials and never edits them. The look comes from effects applied after capture.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Does the exported result match the Preview?">
    Yes. The Preview and Export use the same rendering, so the exported sheets match the Preview pixel for pixel. Save GIF uses it too.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Do I need Pixelate Pro in my game build?">
    No. Exported sprite sheets, Animation Clips, Animator Controllers and Sprite Libraries are standard Unity assets.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How do I make the pixels bigger or smaller?">
    Sprite size in pixels is **Cell Size × Pixels Per Unit**. For chunkier pixels, lower **Pixels Per Unit** on the Style Profile. For more detail, raise it. The Output line under Cell Size shows the result.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How do I export 8 directions for a top-down character?">
    In **Rendering**, open **Add Directions** in the Views header and choose **8 Directions**. Set the first view's X rotation to the camera tilt you want first; new views use it. To reuse the views on other characters, click **Save As...** to make a Camera Rig. See [Camera views and directions](/guides/pixelate-asset#camera-views-and-directions).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why do my sprites jitter or slide between frames?">
    Every frame of a sheet uses the same camera, cell and pivot, so the sprite itself never shifts. If the character drifts inside the cell, the clip probably moves it forward. Use an in-place version of the clip.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can several characters share one palette?">
    Yes. Set the Style Profile's Color Palette to **Custom** and assign one palette. With **Auto**, each asset gets its own palette from its own colors.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I use palettes from Lospec?">
    Yes. Download the `.gpl`, `.pal` or `.hex` file (or the PNG) into your project and assign it. See [Palettes](/guides/palettes).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Where do exported files go?">
    By default into a folder named after the File Name, next to the Pixelate Asset: `{asset folder}/{File Name}/{Clip}/`. Set **Output Folder** to export somewhere else inside `Assets`.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Will re-exporting break my references?">
    No, when **Overwrite Existing** is on. Sheets, sprites, Animation Clips, the Animator Controller and the Sprite Library are updated in place, so prefabs and scenes that use them keep working. Transitions and parameters you added to the controller are kept.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Does Pixelate Pro support HDRP?">
    No. Pixelate Pro supports URP and the Built-In Render Pipeline. See [Compatibility](/compatibility).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I write my own effect?">
    Yes. See [Extension authoring](/advanced/extensions).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Does Pixelate Pro collect data?">
    No. There is no telemetry. The optional update check only reads the public Asset Store page. Turn it off in **Pixelate > Settings** (Check for Updates On Startup).
  </Accordion>
