# Settings

> Project Settings > Pixelate: what new Pixelate Assets start with, where the Browser creates assets, and the per-computer options.

Open the settings with **Pixelate > Settings**, or find **Pixelate** in **Edit > Project Settings**. Type in the Project Settings search box to jump to any setting.

Nothing is saved to your project until you change a setting. The project settings are stored in `ProjectSettings/PixelateProSettings.asset`, so you can commit them and share them with your team. **Check for Updates On Startup** and **Show Previews in Project Window** are stored for you only and apply to every project on this computer. The export settings are defaults for new Pixelate Assets; existing assets keep their own values.

To put everything back, open the page menu (the button at the top right of the page) and choose **Reset to Defaults**.

## General

| Setting | What it does |
| - | - |
| Check for Updates On Startup | Checks Pixelate Pro's Asset Store page for a newer version when Unity starts. No data is sent. The update popup's own toggle changes the same setting. **Pixelate > Check for Updates** still checks at any time. |

## New Pixelate Assets

These apply whenever you create a Pixelate Asset: from **Create > Pixelate > Pixelate Asset** or from the Browser, empty or from a selected model or prefab.

| Setting | What it does |
| - | - |
| Default Style Profile | The Style Profile new assets start with. Left empty, Pixelate Pro uses the profile you last assigned in this project, otherwise the first one it finds, and creates one if the project has none. |
| Default Camera Rig | The Camera Rig new assets link, with its views copied in. Left empty, each asset starts with its own views. |
| Default Pivot | The sprite pivot new assets start with. Choose Custom to type the pivot. |

## Pixelate Browser

| Setting | What it does |
| - | - |
| New Asset Location | Where the Browser's Create items put new assets. **Project Window Folder** (the default) uses the folder the Project window shows and lets you name the new asset there. **Fixed Folder** always uses the folder you pick. |

The Project window's own **Create** menu always uses the folder you clicked in, whatever this setting says.

## Export

These are defaults for new Pixelate Assets. Existing assets keep their own values, which you can change in each asset's Output section.

| Setting | What it does |
| - | - |
| Output Location | **Next to the Pixelate Asset** (the default) or a **Fixed Folder** inside Assets. With a fixed folder, **Subfolder per Asset** adds a folder named after each Pixelate Asset. |
| File Name Pattern | How exported sheets are named, from `{File}` (the File Name), `{Asset}` (the Pixelate Asset's name), `{Clip}` and `{View}`. It must contain `{Clip}` and `{View}` so every sheet gets its own file. The default `{File}_{Clip}_{View}` gives names like `Hero_Run_Front.png`. |
| Create Animation Clips | New assets create an Animation Clip for each exported sheet. |
| Overwrite Existing Files | New assets replace files from an earlier export. Off writes numbered copies instead. |
| Normal Map Suffix | Added to normal map file names by new Lighting effects, such as `_N`. |

## Performance

| Setting | What it does |
| - | - |
| Show Previews in Project Window | Draws the preview of each Pixelate asset (assets, style profiles, palettes, camera rigs) over its icon in the Project window. Turn it off to see the plain type icon. |
