# Color Adjustments

> Adjust exposure, contrast, saturation and hue before the palette is applied.

Color Adjustments changes the captured colors before [Color Palette](/effects/color-palette) snaps them. Use it to brighten a dark model, punch up flat colors, or shift a whole character's hue, without touching the source materials.

## Settings

All settings are 0 by default, which means no change.

| Setting | Range | What it does |
| - | - | - |
| **Exposure** | -3 to 3 | Brightens or darkens in photographic stops. +1 doubles the light, -1 halves it. Black stays black. |
| **Contrast** | -100 to 100 | Pushes colors away from mid grey (positive) or toward it (negative). -100 flattens the image to grey. |
| **Saturation** | -100 to 100 | Makes colors more vivid (positive) or greyer (negative). -100 removes all color. |
| **Hue Shift** | -180 to 180 | Rotates every hue around the color wheel, in degrees, keeping brightness. |

## Tips

* With an **Auto** Color Palette, click **Regenerate** on the palette after large changes so the palette is rebuilt from the adjusted colors. The palette shows a stale warning when it needs this.
* With a **Custom** palette, adjustments decide which palette color each pixel snaps to. A small Exposure or Contrast change is often enough to use more of the palette.
